At the Lions Club State Convention, held on Jekyll Island June 5-7, the Dawsonville Lions Club received state awards in six categories.

The awards were as follows.

First place - Moultrie Award for the best program of activities in Health and Welfare; excluding blind work, sight conservation and activities pertaining to hearing.

First place - Juvenile Community Award for the most effective program in serving the needs of handicapped, blind and/or hearing impaired children between the ages of 2 - 16.

First place - Buddy Ouzts Children's Eye Care Center @ Emory Award for making the largest per capita donation to the Eye Care Center.

First place - Dr. Malcolm Reid Memorial Award for making the largest per capita donation to the Athens Unit, Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic.           

Second place - B.I. Thornton Memorial Award for the most outstanding record of achievement of Blind/Hearing work.

Second place - Clermont North Hall Award for making the largest per capita donation to the GA Lions Lighthouse Inc.

Dawsonville Lions Club members attending the convention were: Chip and Lynn Sweatte, Joe and Marilynn Hirsch, Ron Bennetti and Sam Catanzano.  Also in attendance with the group were Deanna Bennetti and Sara Catanzano.

Local club president, Chip Sweatte's pride in the club was evident as he accepted each of the awards.
