Racing legend to compete in Daytona

Bill Elliott announced last week a partnership that will put the 1988 Cup champion from Dawsonville behind the wheel of a blue No. 50 Walmart-sponsored Chevy in the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway in July. Region champs

The Dawson County boys basketball team is riding high after doing the improbable last weekend. Head coach Thad Burgess' team captured the Region 8-AA crown with a 51-43 win over Jefferson at Hart County High School on Saturday. It was the first region championship since 1969 for the Tigers. 3 wrestle in Gwinnett

Dawson County had three wrestlers take part in the State Traditional Tournament last weekend at Gwinnett Arena. Cory Jenkins (132 pounds), Preston Adams (160 pounds) and Evan Kells (182 pounds) represented the Tigers in the prestigious event. Read More



Girls lose close one against East Hall

So close. The Lady Tigers missed an opportunity to qualify for the state basketball tournament following a game against East Hall last week on the Lady Vikings' home court. A missed shot with less than 5 seconds remaining ended the season for Dawson County. Read More



Ladies play well against No. 6 Buford

The Dawson County High School varsity girls' soccer team showed that it can be competitive against state contenders with a close loss to No. 6 ranked Buford, 2-1, last week in Buford. "I think we showed we can play with the better teams in the state tonight," said head coach Jed Lacey. Read More

The Dawson County High School varsity Tigers soccer team opened the regular season with a win over Gilmer County, 2-0, before losing to state-ranked Buford, 7-3, on Thursday. Buford is currently ranked No. 7 in AA. The game with Gilmer County was very physical. Read More

Middle schoolers break record

The Riverview Middle School Lady Eagle's soccer team defeated Clear Creek, 6-0, last week. With the win the team has won 22-straight games, more than any other team, in any sport, in Dawson County history. Read More



Lady Eagles take down Jasper

The eighth grade Riverview Lady Eagles defeated Jasper Middle School, 31-27, last week. Tabitha Morrison led all scorers in the Jan. 24 game with 13 points. Read More



Eighth graders lose to Fannin County

Head coach Jonathan Tinsley's eighth grade boys basketball team at Dawson County Middle lost a close 41-35 match-up against Fannin County last week at home. The Jan. 19 game was close throughout with the visiting Rebels. Read More



Lady Tigers still undefeated

The Dawson County Middle School eighth grade girls basketball team remains undefeated after manhandling Fannin County, 31-6, last week. Coach Tina Brown's team is currently 8-0 for the season. Read More



8th graders drop a close one

The Riverview Middle School eighth grade girls basketball team dropped a close 32-28 decision last week to Pickens Middle in Jasper. With the Jan. 17 loss, the Lady Eagles are currently 4-5 on the season. Read More
